Shree Cement upgrades servers to make supply chain management efficient

The cement manufacturer has moved its entire workloads to IBM POWER9 servers and reduced the database licence requirement through fewer CPU cores which provide optimum performance. One major area where Shree Cement leveraged technology was to increase business efficiency in supply chain management.

With an annual capacity of producing close to 44.4 million tonnes of cement, Shree Cement is among India’s top three cement producers.

And to remain a top producer, Shree Cement required a robust IT infrastructure to connect all its mines and grinding units.

While the company was further expanding the business & growing production capacity, maximum utilization of the hardware and saving the database software license costs was a priority.

“To support this growth, a technology partner was required who could deploy a high-performance infrastructure to help us with real-time analytics and increase our plant efficiencies,” said Manoranjan Kumar, CIO, Shree Cement Limited.

Shree Cements went for a hardware refresh and moved the entire workload to IBM POWER9 – based IBM Power Systems. The project went live in December 2020. Currently, the project is live at Beawar, Rajasthan unit.

At present, the company has four mines and ten grinding units.

In the past, Shree Cement has used IBM AIX to run several critical applications, now, the cement manufacturer has moved its entire workloads to IBM POWER9 servers and reduced the database licence requirement through fewer CPU cores which provide optimum performance. One major area where Shree Cement leveraged technology was to increase business efficiency in supply chain management.
